Obituary of Charles Kuenzig

Charles John Kuenzig of Teeswater, passed away peacefully with family by his side, on Tuesday, May 12th, 2026, at Braemar Retirement Centre, Wingham, in his 88th year.

 

Loving husband of Ruth Kuenzig (McGillivray).

 

Dear father of Robert (Susan) Kuenzig, Dan (Heidi) Kuenzig, and Lisa (Keith) Harper, and step-father to Glen McGillivray, Heather (Jeff) Van Der Belt, Greg (Jayne) McGillivray, and Marianne (Jason) Nobili.

 

He adored his grandchildren Stephen (Tiffany), Abbie, Katie (Jason), Elizabeth, Tyler, Dylan, Myles, Brady, and Matthew (Samantha). His great-grandchildren Kalisto, Aria, Lyric, and Raelynn were deeply loved as well.

 

Charles will be missed by his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

 

Predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Florina (née Kunkel) Kuenzig, his first wife Patricia (née Ernest), brothers Gilbert (Yvonne) Kuenzig and Gerald Kuenzig, and sisters Elizabeth Poechman (Howard) and Marguerite (Bill) McCormick (Henry Schaefer), nephew John McCormick, father and mother in-law Pat and Helen Ernest and brother-in-law David Ernest and sister-in-law Rosemary Ernest.

 

Whether he was volunteering with the Teeswater Lions Club, Walkerton Knights of Columbus, or the Christopher Leadership Course, camping with family and friends, or working in various sales and service careers, Charles loved connecting with the communities and people around him. He had a remarkable ability to connect with others and share laughter, learning, and comfort. We are proud of the impact he had on the world around him and on all those he loved.

 

We would like to thank the incredible staff of Wingham and District Hospital, Alexandra Marine and General Hospital, Goderich, Goderich Place, and Braemar Retirement Centre. Their compassion and support over the last six months allowed us to spend meaningful time with our dad, knowing he was in good hands.

 

Visitation will be held at the Tiffin Funeral Home, Teeswater on Friday, May 15th from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., with Parish Prayers at 8:45 p.m.

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Teeswater on Saturday, May 16th, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.

 

Interment Sacred Heart Cemetery, Teeswater.
